Having completed modernization of its new cement import terminal in June 2006, Essex Cement Company LLC operates the largest terminal in the New York/New Jersey market – one of the largest consumers of cement and building materials in the country. The Essex terminal, which is the only source of cement in New Jersey, now has the capacity to store 62,000 tons in four main cement silos.
The cement is delivered pneumatically from the ship to the silos through a Kovako barge-mounted unloader, utilizing two 14-inch steel pipes for the transfer.
Also new to the terminal are safety platforms to aid drivers in safely opening and closing the hatch of their trucks, as well as state-of-the-art dust collecting technology, in keeping with Essex’s commitment to the environment.
Essex Cement has imported more than six million tons of cement into the metropolitan New York and New Jersey area since 1985.
